This Year's Lesson
1. Converting Lesson: Students Learned to convert measurements between the metric and customary system. Below is my written copy of my reflection and my lesson plan. Students learned the idea of converting through the visual math idea of physically pouring a liter of liquid into cups to fully understand converting. Some students were actually able to discover scale factor before doing any example problems. The students were excited because they got to learn a topic without doing boring notes and they got to drink Lemonade after pouring a liter into cups.

2. Paper Slides: students used the paper slide technique to memorize, substitute, and solve simple interest math problems. Students loved the idea of paper slides and being able to use fun colors and cute designs. They especially enjoyed using the Ipads in the classroom because they rarely get to use an Ipad in school at all, so technology definitely enhanced their learning.

3. Christmas Tree Race: during Christmas season, I made a Christmas Tree decorating activity. This game was used with many worksheets. Students worked in their table groups to solve problems, once they got one correct, they got to place one of their group's color ornament onto the Christmas tree. The winner will have the most ornaments on the tree. The students loved this game because it made the worksheet come to life. They were motivated to work hard and get the problem right, so they could win. The students are very competitive, so any competition will make them focus and work hard.

4. I also made a STAAR review vocab game. Because the students are doing several worksheets and practice tests, I thought it would be a fun break for them to be refreshed on several vocabulary math terms that they need to know. I put several terms on a powerpoint as a Who Wants to Be a Millionaire Game.

Useful Resources

=
Since I am in a 7th grade math classroom, below are some useful links to use in a middle school math classroom.

Sophia- a great tool used for a flipped classroom. Students watch their video notes on this website.
Cool Math- my classroom uses this website often. It contains a variety of math games that the students love and learn while doing it.
Discovery Education- This site has many helpful videos, activities, and worksheets. It also contains a neat presentation board that is easy to use.
Prezi- this site is like a more interactive Powerpoint. There is more themes, colors, and patterns to make a lesson come alive.
Think Through Math- this site is used in middle school. The kids have to do a certain number of worksheets online each semester and the website monitors how many they do and the score they earn.

My other activity I planned was for my kindergarten class stations.

The week before Thanksgiving break, I made a Math Turkey for one of the stations. I explained to the class how to play on Tuesday and on Wednesday I got to guide a group through the station. The kids enjoyed pulling a feather, identifying the number, and finding the corresponding amount on their game board. They were engaged the whole time. I would ask them what number had the most, what number had the least, and how many more of a certain number did they need until the row was filled. After all the feathers were pulled, they told me (if it was a race) which number got first, second, third, and so on. The kids had a good understanding of identifying numbers and ranking them in order afterwards.

I find it useful to have time planned out when planning a lesson plan especially in a middle school classroom since the day is split into class periods. It is important to set aside a certain number of minutes to notes, activities, and worksheets, so the class time will be productive and not get behind since it is important to have all the information taught in time for the EOC exams.
